Research interests
I am currently working on the Brexit negotiations and institutional change in the EU. I am researching the role of path-dependence dynamics in shaping the Brexit negotiations and the negotiation of the UK-EU's future relationship.
I have recently written a number of opinion pieces on Brexit for The Conversation and for the OUPBlog. I also organised a series of events on Brexit and Bristol in 2016 and 2017 involving key external stakeholders.
I have previously worked on the involvement of civil society and interest groups in EU governance in the context of wider debates on participatory and deliberative democracy. I have written extensively on the impact of EU membership on civil society in the new member states from Central and Eastern Europe through the lens of Europeanization. I have worked on the impact of EU enlargement on the institutionalisation of civil society participation in the EU with a focus on the European Economic and Social Committee and the Social Dialogue and the European Union's new civil dialogue.
I welcome enquires from individuals interested in doctoral or post-doctoral research that coincides with my own research interests specifically civil society, lobbying and global governance, EU enlargement, and Brexit negotiations.
