Biography
A computer scientist and designer, Lon Barfield has research, industry & start-up experience and is a lecturer and author. After joint degrees in Computer Science and Physics and a Masters in Computer Science at Manchester he went on to work at the CWI: Holland's National Research Labs, co-founded the internet start-up General Design and worked on UX at Hewlett Packard Labs as well as a number of universities; Bristol, TU Delft, Utrecht, OU, UWE, City University, University of the Arts London and the Manchester Metropolitan University. He has written a number of textbooks on UX design.
Recently working on UX for complex technologies he has worked on technologies and design issues in the blockchain space. He has designed and delivered workshops on blockchain technology and smart contracts to Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC), Bristol University, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in London and Milton Keynes, the University of the West of England (UWE), The British Academy of Management (BAM) and UCD-Bristol. He was also a review editor for the journal ‘Frontiers in Blockchain’.
Currently he is working on UX design for AI based systems and services to support innovation.
Outside of this he is part of a large samba drumming group and enjoys running and baking.
