Research interests
I am a senior biomedical scientist specializing in ocular immunology, immunoaging, and therapeutics, with a focus on gene therapy and small-molecule therapy for chronic retinal diseases and related metabolic disturbances. My research aims to uncover the immune mechanisms driving age-related degenerative eye conditions and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies to prevent or reverse disease progression. I have a strong track record of leading collaborative research initiatives and actively mentoring students and emerging scientists at all levels.
I actively support the scientific community by reviewing grant proposals for major funding bodies, including the BBSRC and MRC, and serving as a peer reviewer for leading journals such as Science Advances, Molecular Therapy, Autophagy, Journal of Neuroinflammation, eLife, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, International Immunopharmacology, Experimental Eye Research, and iScience. Additionally, I contribute as a topic editor for Frontiers in Immunology and Cells.
