Research interests
Jane Blazeby FMedSci and NIHR Senior Investigator is Professor of Surgery at the University of Bristol and a Honorary Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. She is chief investigator of the By-Band-Sleeve Study (NIHR HTA reference 09/127/53) and supports many other surgical trials e.g. ROMIO (NIHR HTA reference 14/140/78) and Sunflower (NIHR HTA reference 16/142/04). She has methodological expertise in outcome selection, measurement and reporting and in early and later phase surgical study design and conduct. She invests time into developing clinical academics and hopes to establish working with other centres a new generation of surgeons who understand and can lead clinical trials. She is currently a member of the COMET and IDEAL executive groups, and the MRC Trials Methodology Research Partnership. She enjoys multi-disciplinary collaborative working and working with patients to optimise study design, delivery and implementation. Ultimately her research aims to establish patient centred evidence based surgical practice in the NHS.
