Biography
I have started my scientific career in Sri Lanka, as a Bachelor of Science (Hons) graduate from Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya. Followed up with a Master of Philosophy in Chemical Sciences, where I have developed a self-cleaning and antibacterial cotton textile, which is recently commercialized. Then I have completed my PhD, on understanding the Bactericidal Action of Nanopillar Topography of Dragonfly Wings at the University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. I have won the best publication awarded by the Wiley Publishers. Then, I have moved to Germany as a postdoctoral research assistant at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), where I have collaborated with a consortium of 23 research groups, studying self-organisation of Rhizosphere. During this time, I have managed to develop a sample preparation capable of correlating seven different microscopy techniques to study soil and microbes at different scales with a focus on isotopes. After this placement, I was fortunate to secure a Marie Curie Fellowship to continue my PhD topic, understanding the bactericidal mechanism of nanopillar surfaces.
