Research interests
My practice-as-research doctoral project uses slow cinema, folk gothic and the essay film to explore the meanings of common land in England through filmmaking, field work and interdisciplinary research. I draw particularly on the work of social geographer Doreen Massey, cultural theorist Mark Fisher and archaeologist Chris Tilley. I have made numerous visits to commons around England and am focussing in particular on Grovely Wood, in Wiltshire, and The Pebblebed Heaths, Devon.
I am supervised by Dr. Narriman Massoumi from the Department of Film and Television, Dr. Erika Hanna from the Department of History and Prof. Ralph Pite from the Deparment of English. I am a member of the Centre for Environmental Humanities and have been teaching and lecturing in film and TV since 2022.
