MA Music: Russian Music pathway

Our MA pathway in Russian Music is unique in the UK. It is designed to help you prepare for more advanced study in Russian music and will give you the language and analytical skills to take your research further.

It is also a fascinating standalone degree if you have a special interest in Russian music but aren't looking to continue to PhD level.

As part of this pathway, you will learn the Russian language over the course of the whole year, taking you from an absolute beginner to making translations of Russian poems by June.

The pathway also offers a range of core and optional units from within both the Department of Music and Department of Russian, allowing you to explore the research passions of our academics.

Staff specialisms in the Music and Russian departments include:

  • Gender and sexuality in Russian and Soviet literature;
  • Russian Orthodox culture;
  • Russian modernism;
  • Russian intellectual history;
  • Soviet and post-Soviet cultural and social history;
  • Russian and Soviet identity.
