Areas of expertise |
The research in my group sub-divides into two main areas.
1.Detailed studies of the photochemistry and photophysics of isolated gas phase molecules using a variety of state-of-the-art laser based techniques including H atom photofragment translational spectroscopy and velocity map ion imaging. This work is now being extended to allow exploration of molecular photophysics in the condensed phase.
2.Growth and characterisation of thin films grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and laser ablation methods. Current interests include exploration of the gas phase chemistry prevailing during CVD of diamond (and doped diamond) films in microwave reactors using mass spectrometry and a range of laser spectroscopies, and exploration of the chemical physics underpinning transfer of material from a target to a substrate coating during pulsed laser ablation and deposition.
