Areas of expertise |
Professor of Social Medicine working in the multi- and inter-disciplinary area called Health Services Research (HSR). Within HSR, my research interests are in people's experiences of illness and health care and the acceptability of healthcare interventions.
I run a large programme of research in prostate cancer, including the £14 million NHS HTA Programme-funded ProtecT (Prostate testing for cancer and Treatment) study which is evaluating the effectiveness of treatments for localised (screen-detected) prostate cancer.
Other research interests are in perceptions of arthritis, compliance with medications, urinary incontinence, and methodological research attempting to improve the design and conduct of randomised controlled trials of healthcare interventions using qualitative research methods.
