Resolving complex commercial questions with The Honourable Mr Justice Marcus Smith

28 January 2020, 6.00 PM - 28 January 2020, 7.00 PM

The Hon. Mr Justice Marcus Smith

G25 Reynolds Lecture Theatre

Having recently presided over the “Brexit frustration case”(Canary Wharf v European Medicines Agency, [2019] EWHC 921 (Ch)), The Honourable Mr Justice Marcus Smith will be talking to University of Bristol Law School students about how judges analyse and engage with the important commercial issues of the day.

In this talk, Marcus will seek to focus less on the detail of the case, and more on the thinking and influences that cause a court to determine a case one way, rather than another. In short, the talk will try to be more about judicial reasoning than the detail of the law of frustration.

Marcus is a Justice of the High Court (Chancery Division) and the Business and Property Courts Supervising Judge for the Wales, Midland and Western Circuits. His work spans all aspects of business, commercial and property law, and he spends a good deal of his time hearing cases in the Bristol Civil Justice Centre.

Book your place here.

Please note: this event is open to University of Bristol students only.
