IAS Competitive Funding Schemes 2008/09

The Institute for Advanced Studies announces its new competitive funding schemes for 2008/09.

In the coming academic year, 2008-09, the IAS will offer the following schemes to support research:

  • EXPLORATORY RESEARCH WORKSHOPS: these provide an opportunity to share interests and sound out possible interdisciplinary research topics. These workshops will be held at the IAS, refreshments provided for participants, and the details advertised on our website. Applications can be made at any time. Form is available below:

  • RESEARCH WORKSHOPS: funding up to £2,500 is available for a series of at least three workshops exploring an interdisciplinary topic, plus up to £300 to off-set administration costs. These can be held either in the IAS or elsewhere if appropriate to the topic. Applications should be made by October 31st for workshops commencing before Christmas 2008 and by December 19th for workshops starting after January 2009. Application form is available at:

    NB the form and closing dates also apply to applications for renewal of funding for existing workshops.
  • New IAS/WUN INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH WORKSHOP COMPETITION: this new initiative in collaboration with Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) provides up to £2,500 for researchers at Bristol to run a series of not fewer than three workshops, with a further £2,500 to bring researchers from WUN Member Universities to participate in the workshop series, plus up to £300 to off-set administration costs. The workshops are intended to support interdisciplinary, international research into areas of current global concern. Two International Research Workshop awards are offered for the coming academic year. Workshops can be held either in the IAS or elsewhere if appropriate to the topic. Deadlines for applications are the same as for the IAS Research Workshop Scheme, applications should be made by October 31st for workshops commencing before Christmas 2008 and by December 19th for workshops starting after January 2009.   • New POST-DOCTORAL INTERDISCIPLINARY EVENTS: funding up to £800 is available to enable post-doctoral researchers to organise and run interdisciplinary research events. The IAS can act as the venue if appropriate and support with advertising. Applications can be made at any time. Form is available from:
