Title: A Discussion on the Interaction Mechanisms between AI and Medical Research - Insights from Two Case Studies.
Abstract: AI for science is revolutionizing the way medical and health research progresses, leading to frequent and impactful interactions between AI researchers and participants in medical research, such as biologists, pathologists, and clinicians. These interactions are increasingly shaping the research approaches of both fields. In this talk, the speaker will explore the interaction process between AI and medical research from two distinct perspectives: how AI influences medical research and how medical prior knowledge affects the development of AI tools. The presentation will begin with a brief explanation of the fundamental principles of machine learning algorithms in medical image processing, followed by an overview of two case studies in computational pathology that demonstrate the interaction between AI and medical research. The talk will conclude by inviting further discussion on how to improve the interaction mechanisms between AI research and medical research.
Biography: Dr. Yang Hu is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Big Data Institute, University of Oxford, specializing in medical image processing, multi-omics analysis, and human-centred AI for healthcare applications.
