Abstract
In this talk I will cover the typical journey of a paper through a medical journal's processes and consider what editors and peer reviewers look for when assessing research and how to choose an appropriate journal for your research. I will also cover (from The BMJ's perspective) common reasons for rejection and some tips for submission
Biography
Sophie is a general practitioner who joined The BMJ in 2009 as editorial registrar. She initially worked on research before becoming an assistant editor on the education team for 6 years, running the clinical reviews section and later acting as joint head of education for The BMJ. In January 2017 she became UK research editor, working with the international research team to handle the 4000 research submissions we receive annually and undertaking outreach visits in the UK. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and holds a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her clinical and editorial interests include women and children’s health, palliative care in the community, shared decision making in practice, conflicts of interest in publishing, co-producing content with patients and quality improvement.
