Inclusion Matters

A series of informal sessions in which staff can come along and learn about specific areas of inclusion.

We feature guest speakers from within and outside of the University, who deliver a talk, followed by a space for staff to ask questions and engage in conversation.

We plan to run at least one session per month. This is an opportunity for staff to gain knowledge and understanding in subjects around inclusion, and take this learning back to their area of work and develop their understanding with further resources.

Upcoming events

Trans Awareness: The Basics

3 November 2021, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm

Gendered Intelligence, a trans-led charity who work across the UK, will lead a session where they will introduce the key ideas and information professionals need to know to build confidence working with trans people as colleagues, clients and students. As well as learning, this session will offer an opportunity for staff to ask questions and a space to reflect on our own practice.

Is there an Islamophobia problem?

9 November 2021, from 1 pm to 2 pm

This talk, led by Ethnicity Centre Director, Professor Tariq Modood, will consider what Islamophobia is, why some people consider it is a form of racism and others think it is a form of religious discrimination. It will also raise the question of why when the data shows that there is more hostility to Muslims than to any other group (except perhaps Travellers), is Islamophobia relatively peripheral in anti-racism, diversity and inclusivity initiatives?
