The University of Bristol has over 150 partner universities all over the world. 

If you choose to take part in a summer school with one of our partner universities, you can apply for Turing funding to cover some of the costs. 

Eligibility

To apply for Turing funding to take part in a partner summer school, you must:

• be a current undergraduate student not in your final year

Your chosen summer school must:

• be at least 4 weeks long
• be no longer than 8 weeks long
• finish before 1st September 2024
• be one of the selected summer schools or be at a partner university

Costs

Costs vary by programme, you will need to do your own research on programme fees as well as accommodation. 

Turing funding

There are 7 places on these programme that will be supported by Turing funding. The Turing Scheme is a UK government initiative. There are two rates available:

Turing rate A

• Cost of living grant: £480 for 4 weeks

Eligibility: All undergraduate students not in their final year.

Turing rate B 

• Cost of living grant: £590 for 4 weeks.
• Travel grant: varies by destination.
• University of Bristol contribution towards the programme fee: Any programme fees between £1,000 and £3,500 will also qualify for an additional contribution from the University of Bristol. This contribution, added together with the cost of living grant, will reduce the programme fee you need to self-fund to £500.

Eligibility: Home undergraduate students, not in their final year, who meet at least one of the following criteria: 

• your household income is under £42,875
  • this includes recipients of the Access to Bristol / Bristol Scholars bursary, OR you receive Universal Credit; note that you must be the recipient, not a partner or family member.
• you are care-experienced
• you have caring responsibilities
• you are an estranged student 
• you are a refugee or asylum seeker
• you are a mature student
• your ethnicity is listed under Asian or Asian British; Black, Black British, Caribbean or African; Mixed or multiple ethnic groups; or the Other ethnic group catergory on the gov.uk list of ethnic groups.
• you have a disability or special educational need. Please note that the term disability is very wide; further details of what may be considered a disability are in this link definition of disability, and this will need to be registered with Disability Services. 

All criteria, including household income, will be taken from your official student record. It is your responsibility to check that the information stored is correct.

Summer Schools

We have over 150+ partner universities and many of them will offer summer schools. You will need to apply directly to the host university for a place.

Below is a list of all our current Partner Universities. Not all of them will offer a Summer School - it is up to you to do your own research by looking on their website and contacting them to find out. You will also need to apply as a "free mover" / independent applicant rather than as an Exchange student. Again, it is up to you to research their invididual application processes and costs for their programmes. 

You will need to apply directly to your chosen Summer School for a place - be aware that some may not open until Spring 2024. You do not have to wait until you have a place before applying for Turing funding below, but you should thoroughly research where you would like to go.
