Pre-departure

Once you have accepted your place at the host university, they will send you information about:

  • accommodation
  • choosing and enrolling onto units
  • medical insurance (if required)
  • visas (if required).

We will send you information about all the other things you need to prepare. This includes:

  • travel insurance
  • a risk assessment you will need to complete to be permitted to go abroad and be covered by insurance
  • student finance and any funding you may receive
  • disability and wellbeing support while you are away
  • getting approval for your learning agreement, which includes the units you intend to study while you are abroad.

You can find more details about all of these pre-departure topics on the Global Opportunities Blackboard 2024/25 (you will be enrolled in TB2).

Accommodation in Bristol for students going abroad for a semester

If you are going abroad for a semester, you can apply for a room on campus for the semester you will be in Bristol. Returner student accommodation is not guaranteed for semester abroad students, you must apply for it and there is very limited availability.

We advise you to look in the private sector, where some landlords or letting agents allow you to take a semester-only contract or sub-let your rooms while you are away. You must discuss this with your prospective landlord or letting agent and get any agreement in writing.

In addition to the Accommodation Office, you can use the following resources to find accommodation in Bristol:
