We maintain and develop a diverse landscape, supporting our estate’s biodiversity, protecting, preserving and enhancing the University’s natural environment for staff, students and the local community.

The University’s estate includes gardens and grounds (76 hectares), a botanic garden (1.3 hectares), and agricultural land (252 hectares).

What we do

We aim to provide a safe, relaxing and stimulating environment to live, study and work. Our team includes professional gardeners, maintenance, groundspersons, stonemasons, a mechanic, arboricultural specialists, project officer and administrator.

We offer a comprehensive maintenance service, including:

  • hedge cutting
  • herbaceous shrub border maintenance
  • seasonal planting, such as spring bulbs
  • the care of specialist plant collections
  • water features and marginal planting maintenance
  • leaf clearance
  • litter clearance, graffiti and fly poster removal
  • grass cutting
  • conservation area and wildflower meadow maintenance
  • woodland and arboretum maintenance
  • weed control
  • hard and soft landscaping projects
  • arboricultural work-felling/clearance, planting, surveys
  • ivy removal from walls, features and buildings
  • maintenance of University signage
  • hard surface maintenance and/or minor repair
  • wall surveys and maintenance
  • winter services (gritting/snow clearance)
  • installation/maintenance of street furniture

Hire the Linnaeus Study Room

You can hire the Linnaeus Study Room for courses, seminars, meetings, training sessions and conferences.

It is a former coach house, located next to the University of Bristol Botanic Garden in Stoke Bishop, near Durdham Down.
