Remit

  1. To act as a source of expertise for the Education and Students’ processes and as the interface between Education Services, relevant central services divisions and the faculties.
  2. To proactively seek and implement harmonised Education and Students’ processes and practices across the University, where desirable and achievable and to share good practice in student administration and education development.
  3. To ensure representation on relevant University committees and working groups; to exchange information and input expertise. To respond to directives from these committees by offering solutions or identifying areas for further development.
  4. To identify issues and recommend changes to the Education and Students‘ processes to Education Services and wider University.
  5. To input into and respond to proposals for new initiatives relating to student administration and, where relevant, to education development and to ensure appropriate communication, consultation and feedback at school and faculty level.
  6. To identify the need for policy and procedural review where appropriate.
  7. To develop and deliver new initiatives and policy changes within faculties.
  8. To ensure that the Education and Students Cycle is implemented consistently across the University.
  9. To plan and agree an annual schedule of work.
  10. To agree, contribute to and develop an annual programme of activities and training for school and faculty staff within the Education and Students’ process, as appropriate.
  11. To discuss and promote opportunities for inter and intra faculty working, e.g. to provide cover and mentoring where desirable.
  12. To discuss and agree areas where personal and professional development may be required

Mode of operation

Formulation of agenda

Prior to each meeting the Secretary will send out a call for agenda items to members of EMG and to the wider circulation list and will draw up a draft agenda for approval by the Chair.  To allow adequate time for dealing with the meeting business, attendance by visiting speakers will normally be limited to one per meeting (with maximum of 20 minutes for the item).

Items for regular and periodic report

 Items may be added or deleted as new initiatives arise or other works in progress become embedded.

Meeting dates

The Group will usually meet every four to six weeks during the academic year (with additional meetings during the summer vacation, as necessary).
