Dr Stephanie Van Eeden is a Lecturer in the School of Education, Communication, and Language Sciences at Newcastle University.

Dr Van Eeden’s expertise lies in speech and language sciences, particularly related to cleft lip and palate. With 19 years’ experience working with the Newcastle cleft lip and palate team, she has been a key contributor to improving communication outcomes for individuals with cleft lip and palate. Dr Van Eeden completed her PhD in the language and listening skills of children with cleft lip and palate.

Through her work, she aims to enhance our understanding the underlying mechanisms which lead to speech difficulties in this population and in particular of language difficulties in people with cleft lip and palate and the impact of these.
