Dr Evie Stergiakouli

Evie is a Lecturer in Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics at the School of Oral and Dental Sciences and the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU), University of Bristol.

She has a background in genetics of complex diseases (PhD in Psychiatric Genetics) and Developmental Biology (BSc in Biology, MSc in Human Reproductive and Developmental Biology).

Evie is involved in designing studies to investigate genetic and environmental risk factors for Cleft Lip and/or Palate taking advantage of publicly available genetic data on Cleft Lip and/or Palate and risk factors for cleft.

Evie’s interests are in identifying causal risk factors for complex diseases with an early developmental origin, such as Cleft Lip and/or Palate, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Conduct Disorder and exploring the effects of these risk factors in individuals from the general population.

She is particularly interested in using aggregates of genetic risk factors (polygenic risk scores) to explore if environmental risk factors contribute to disease and if adverse outcomes linked to disease (such as impaired educational attainment) share genetic effects with disease.
