Genevieve Liveley has secured an award from the Higher Education Academy's Classics Subject Centre for a project entitled: 'Peer assisted learning in Classics and Ancient History'. The project will trial a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) scheme using appropriately trained second year student mentors to support small independent study-groups of first years on the same degree programme.

PAL sessions are intended to be student-led, planned and purposeful but also informal and friendly, helping students adjust to the different styles and demands of university teaching and assessment; develop their independent learning and study skills; enhance their understanding of the subject matter of their course; and so better prepare for assessments. Other aims include increased cohesion of student subject groups, increased social interaction, and increased confidence of students from non-traditional and widening participation backgrounds.
