Jonny was working with Dutch company DSM on colloidal formulations used for anti-reflective coatings. Such is the complexity of these formulations, Jonny developed interests in many eclectic facets of colloid chemistry including; polymer-surfactant interactions, stimuli-responsive soft- materials, inorganic-organic hybrid nanocomposites and mesostructured materials.

His research centred around the use of small-angle scattering (SAS) techniques to understand structural properties and interactions in multi-component polymer and polymer-silica systems.

Outside the lab, Jonny is a keen chess player and enjoys creative writing.
