Project title:

Multimodal machine learning approaches for measuring mental wellbeing using sensor and online data

Supervisors:

Dr Ryan McConville, Department of Engineering Maths; Dr Roberta Bernadi, School of Management

General profile:

I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2021 with an MEng in Engineering Mathematics. I was specifically interested in how data driven technology can be used in clinical and health care tasks, so my final year thesis was on, “The effect of supervision in predicting the length of hospital stay”.

I have built various machine learning models in this project with the main focus on clustering with deep neural networks for clinical decision making. I also hope to apply my skills in other health-related problems such as mental health, obesity, cancer, or AIDS using machine learning/ artificial intelligence during my research.

I have also sought to understand various health-related data and consider different health care problems that can be tackled using machine learning. I have an interest in joining academia where I can work on various research projects and mentor new generation of data scientists working on ideas towards addressing real-world problems. Learning data driven technology in the health sector and practising it in a real scenario will be a steppingstone towards my future, ready to face any challenges in my career.
