In 1992 he completed a BSc in electronics engineering and communications from the University Baghdad.

"The CDT in Communications programme at the University of Bristol is a very attractive research program that gives the opportunity for us to integrate the academic knowledge with industrial requirements. The first year taught program is a very good step towards refreshing my knowledge and progress successfully towards my academic research in the field of 5G communication."

Abia Amin

After graduating from the University Of Khartoum 2006, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Abia worked in ZTE Telecom-Sudan for one year as a network optimization engineer.

She was awarded her MSc degree in Communications & Signal Processing from Imperial College London in2008. After that, she started to work in a research centre in Sudan (NCTR) in the field of wireless communications and signal processing.

"The CDT in communications at Bristol University is the best choice if you want to participate in making the future of wireless communications. The taught component in the first year is a solid first step into choosing your perfect research subject for the following PhD years."

Henry Bromell

Henry graduated in 2017 from Bristol University with an MEng in Electronic and Communications Engineering, where his final year research project involved millimetre wave channel modelling.

"I have found the CDT taught year to be a valuable opportunity to verify my research interests and begin to scope the research project so when research funding starts I can really hit the ground running. The close industry links the CDT programme has have already been interesting and useful in my professional development and I look forward to continuing my study as part of such a groundbreaking research group."

Cahyana

Cahyana graduated from Hasanuddin University in 2002 with BSc in Electrical Engineering, and from the University of Indonesia in 2007 with master degree in Computer Science. She worked as a Lecturer at Telkom University, Bandung.

Nigel Cooksley

During his BEng Mechanical Engineering degree in Bristol between 2005 and 2008, Nigel established a university link with Ecotricity Group Ltd where, under Dr Mike Ackerman, he wind-tunnel tested and used Computational Fluid Dynamics to analyse vertical-axis wind turbine designs. After further consultancy work with Garrad Hassan & Partners Ltd, he completed a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics and has taught applied mathematics and mechanical engineering principles up to HNC level.

"Great comradery. The taught first year is exciting and challenging and the facilities and support is amazing!”

Tom Eatwell

Tom graduated from UWE in 2016 with a degree in Mathematics.

“I am looking forward to applying my mathematical knowledge to the real world.”

Roger Green

Roger graduated from Brighton with a BEng honours in Electronic Engineering.

He then joined Racal Research working on embedded security systems, DSP development as part of ASIC design and improving GPS triangulation. At Nortel he was employed as a software engineer designing GPS simulation algorithms but then joined their fixed wireless project contributing to both the basestation and residential unit as a software engineer then team leader.

With two colleagues from Nortel Roger formed a software startup which ran for 4 years. Since 2003 he has been working for his own hardware/software design consultancy working on a variety of RF, digital and analogue projects.

“Although having worked in industry for a number of years, the CDT in Communications is not only broadening my existing knowledge but also teaching me new methods and technologies for the next generation of wireless.”

Peter James

Peter graduated from the University of Bath in 2009 with a 2:1 in BSc Physics and went on to the University of Southampton to study for an MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering Science (Mechatronics) in 2010. Having spent the past 6 years working on Data Analysis & Computer Modelling in Logistics and Finance, he is now undertaking a PhD with the Communcations CDT. His research interests include antenna design, remote sensing systems, instrumentation and signals processing.

“The CDT route gives a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Communications in the taught year, before conducting fantastic research in an exciting field in the following years. For me, this has combined several areas of interest from my previous studies together in course that provides an excellent foundation for my research and future career.“

Sanat Nagaraju

Sanat is a technology evangelist based in the UK. He works closely with leading technology companies and over the years, he has worked upon several communication, imaging and digital projects.

Prior to taking up research at University of Bristol, Sanat was engaged as an Innovation Architect in Communications industry delivering projects for organisations like NTT, Orange, EE, BT, Hutchison, Vodafone, Telefonica and eir.

In addition, Sanat has experience of working with NTT Group R&D departments promoting technology solutions to major communications providers in UK and Europe.

Chrys Paschou

After receiving a BSc degree in Mathematics from the National University of Athens (2009), Chrysanthi pursued a teaching career in Secondary Education both in Greece and later in the UK, where she gained a certificate of excellence in teaching (CAPITA Education, 2015). In 2016, Chrysanthi decided to continue her studies and completed an MSc programme in Cryptography and Communications at Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL). Chrysanthi developed a strong interest in Error Correction Theory and Distributed Storage Systems, which is demonstrated in her recent dissertation (Sep 2017), titled "Locality and Availability of Codes Constructed via Subspaces". Currently, Chrysanthi is a Ph.D. student at the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Communications at the University of Bristol.

“I am very excited about being a part of the CDT in Communications, a programme that gives the opportunity to young researchers to define the next generation of Communications.”

Jonathan Thomas

Jonathan graduated from Cardiff University in 2016 with a MEng in Electronics and Communications Engineering. In his final year he was involved in two group projects, focused on the 'Effect of Low Power Microwaves on Vibrio Fischeri' and the 'Design of a Command and Control module for a Rocket'.

Since then, he has worked at a network engineering consultancy (ITSUS Consulting), and has developed and delivered a number of bespoke solutions into the Defence Sector.

"The CDT in Communications has given me a unique oppurtunity to further develop my knowledge and skills within a world leading department before undertaking the research phase of my PhD."

Robert Zakrzewski

Robert graduated from Silesian University of Technology with an MSc in Electronics and Telecommunication and applied his knowledge to the commercial and military domains. Robert's experience covers systems research, feasibility studies, systems and protocol engineering, standardisation, and innovation which resulted in several patents filing.

"It is such a great opportunityto pursue my interests and passion in communications in such a stimulating environment at the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Communication."
