Life in Bristol

Bristol (UK) is a much-loved city, famed for its historic architecture, creative industries, and its thriving music and arts scene.

Brimming with independent cafés, bars and restaurants, Bristol is big on things to do, while small enough to feel friendly.

There are many green spaces – the river runs through the city centre providing a beautiful backdrop to its buzzing harbourside.

Where is Bristol?

Located in the south-west of England, Bristol has excellent transport links. With its own international airport, national rail service and coach station, you can easily explore the UK and Europe:

  • London (90 minutes by train)
  • Bath, UNESCO World Heritage City (15 minutes by train)
  • Stonehenge (60 minutes by car/coach)

The areas surrounding Bristol provide plenty of beautiful countryside and coastline for you to explore.

About the University

Founded in 1876, the University of Bristol consistently ranks in the world's top 100 and UK's top ten universities – for both research and teaching excellence.

We’re one of the most popular UK universities. Our graduates are among the most sought after by employers across the globe.

Student life

You’ll get automatic membership to Bristol Students' Union which includes: access to bars and venues, access to over 350 groups and societies, and free support services for accommodation and academic life.

Bristol Vet School’s student society offers an array of social activities and a 'parenting' scheme which pairs first year students with those in older years.

A crowded venue, the audience is in darkness but bright light is shining from the front of the room.

I love the location

The vet school campus is just a 30-minute drive from the centre of Bristol and has amazing hikes and walks.  It's a beautiful place to study. I chose Bristol because it's AVMA accredited and allowed me to practice back in North America after I graduate. The community is amazing - there are so many clubs to get involved in, and my classmates and the staff are so supportive - I've never felt alone.
