The new science of safety

20 April 2016, 6.15 PM - 20 April 2016, 7.15 PM

Wills Memorial Building

This inaugural lecture organised by the Public and Ceremonial Events office was given by Cabot Institute member Professor Philip Thomas, a Professor of Risk Management at the Safety Systems Research Centre in the Queen's School of Engineering at the University of Bristol.

About the talk

A new science is needed to replace the old safety conventions that don't work.  BOGOF promotions in supermarkets, children playing hoop the peg, rogue City traders, why the 3rd Ferrari matters less and the nature of panic are explored so that questions on big nuclear accidents can be answered objectively.
