In this lecture, the Chairman of Bristol 2015, Dr Andrew Garrad, will give a talk on renewable energy, drawing on his invaluable experiences in the sector.  This event is supported by the University of Bristol's Centre for Public Engagement and Cabot Institute, the Festival of Ideas and Bristol 2015.

Biography
Dr Andrew Garrad has been involved in wind energy for more than 30 years.  In 1984 he co-founded the Garrad Hassan Group which grew to become the world’s largest renewable energy consultancy. It was bought by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) in 2009 and he was appointed President of the merged company, GL Garrad Hassan.  In 2012 he  became Chairman. In September 2013 GL merged with DNV and he was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board of DNV GL Energy. From 2013 to 2014 he was President of European Wind Energy Association and he is a past-Chairman of the British Wind Energy Association. Garrad Hassan twice won the Queen’s Award for International Enterprise. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the Energy Institute, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.  He is an Honorary Fellow of New College, Oxford.  In 2006 he received the European Wind Energy Association’s Poul la Cour prize for outstanding achievement in the wind energy field.  He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering by the University of Bristol in July 2009.
