ESRC Symposium on Marine Conservation and Governance: MPAs and beyond
Old Council Chamber, Wills Memorial Building, University of Bristol
Running over two days, invited speakers from both the social sciences and natural sciences will consider issues related to Marine Protected Areas within the wider context of marine governance in national and international contexts. Themes such as the relationship between environmental conservation and socio-economics impacts of Marine Protected Areas will be discussed through multi-disciplinary lenses, next to key concepts such as "ecological networks" and an “ecosystem-based approach”. Case studies from different MPAs will be presented to ground the concepts and themes in empirical evidence.
If you wish to attend the symposium, you must book your place via Eventbrite button below. Attendance is free and buffet lunch is provided for participants. Due to the size of the venue, numbers are restricted to 40 participants so we recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.
The Symposium is organised by Dr. Margherita Pieraccini and co-hosted by the University of Bristol Law School and the Cabot Institute. It is funded by the ESRC "Ecologies and Identities" research project.
