The deployment of lightweight, high performance composite materials will become a necessity if sustainability is to be achieved across a wide range of applications. Currently, the use of such materials is impaired by their sensitivity to damage.

The research by Professor Ian Bond takes inspiration from nature which has evolved a range of damage mitigation and repair techniques.
