Cabot/IAS Autumn Workshop - Retrofutures: Science Fiction and the End of History

29 November 2012, 1.00 PM - 29 November 2012, 1.00 PM

Verdon-Smith Room, Institute for Advanced Studies, First Floor, Royal Fort House

Speaker: Ralph Pite

Professor Ralph Pite will be reading two short stories: 'Greenslaves'(1965) by Frank Herbert and 'Boomer Flats' (1974) by R. A. Lafferty.

The Institute for Advanced Studies and the Cabot Institute are hosting a new discussion group reflecting on the future – how the future has been constructed at different periods and within different cultures, how contradictory futures coexist within a culture’s imaginary, how the futures may be used, whether as a means of oppression or a form of critique.

There will be coffee and tea provided, but please feel free to bring your lunch.

All welcome, please let Philippa Bayley (Philippa.Bayley@bris.ac.uk) know if you wish to attend.
