We will be holding a 2-hour Cabot Institute workshop around the subjects of disaster preparedness, management and recovery.

The first hour will be a presentation from Tom Wilson (Lecturer in Hazards and Disaster Management) and Chris Hawker (Head of Emergency Management) from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, providing background on the geological aspects, impacts, management and recovery from the powerful 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.  In the second hour those that are interested can stay for further discussion with Tom, Chris and Cabot Institute colleagues about shared research interests and ideas.

This should also provide an opportunity to develop links between Bristol and new centres of research in disaster risk, resilience and recovery at the University of Canterbury.

Tom will also be talking about his geological research at Hotstuff (Earth Sciences) at 1 pm on 2 November.

Nb: This meeting is open to University staff and students only.
