Low Carbon South West Research project competition final

From a wide range of high quality entries, four outstanding undergraduate projects have been selected for the final presentation evening on Thursday 3 May.

These include two students from the University of Bristol, Jo Humphrey from the School of Chemistry and Bretton Davis from the Department of Civil Engineering.

The four finalists and the projects being presented are:

  • Insulating Diamond Powders as Chemically Robust Electrocatalyst Supports For Fuel Cell Applications (Jo Humphrey, University of Bristol)
  • Model Testing of Self Installing Wind Turbines (SIWT) for UK Offshore Round 2 Development (Bretton Davis, University of Bristol)
  • Coupled CO2 Sequestration and Geothermal Energy Production (Hamish Woodrow, University of Bath)
  • Actuator Design for a Variable-Pitch Cross-Flow Tidal Turbine (Chris Kiely, University of Bath)

The four finalists will present their projects to a panel of judges and whilst the judges finalise their decision, there will be an opportunity to find out about two exciting team projects at the universities of Bath and Bristol, both focused on low carbon technologies:
