How easy is it to get off our fossil fuel habit? How does our current energy consumption compare with our sustainable energy options? How can we make energy plans that add up? To address these thorny questions Cabot hosted Professor David MacKay from the University of Cambridge, chief scientific adviser to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and author of the popular book Sustainable Energy without the hot air.

Professor MacKay gave a fascinating talk to an audience of almost 800 people who packed the Wills Memorial Building.  He offered a straight-talking assessment of the numbers associated with different forms of energy generation and use, and presented the 2050 Pathways Calculator that he has developed for DECC.
