Colin Brown, WellBoring Charity
WellBoring is far from boring. It is a new charitable organisation dedicated to delivering sustainable water supplies to the developing world. Established in 2010, by four friends in Wiltshire, WellBoring is currently working on its first project; to drill a borehole and to bring a sustainable water supply to a school in rural Kenya. Colin Brown and other members of WellBoring will explain their approach. They will also provide insight into water scarcity in Kenya, details of the first project and how WellBoring is empowering and enabling leaders in the developing World to think beyond subsistence.
John Halliwell, Aquatest Project
Started in 2007, the Aquatest Research Programme is an international, multi-disciplinary consortium led by the University of Bristol. The aim is to deliver a sustainable water test that can be used widely in developing countries. John Halliwell, the project officer, will outline the problems caused by low water quality in the developing world and the brilliant work that Aquatest has undertaken; not only developing a viable solution but also through improving the wider knowledge and learning in the field of water testing.
Amanda Jones, Red Button Design
Red Button Design Ltd is an internationally award winning, not-for-profit, social enterprise. It was established in 2007 in order to design, manufacture and supply products exclusively for the humanitarian market. One of their most famous ideas is the Midomo Water Purifier; a wheeled water container that purifies water as it is moved. Amanda Jones, the commercial director who successfully pitched the company on Dragons Den, will explain her organisation's innovative approach to providing solutions to the world's biggest problems in a truly sustainable way.
