Passionate students' engagement with sustainability: Is this possible?

In this presentation, Dr Beatriz Acevedo of Anglia Ruskin University, will share her experience about students engagement in processes of eco-auditing and greening the campus. In particular, her presentation refers to the Green Impact, initiated actually at University of Bristol and coordinated by the National Union of Students, as a way of promoting environmentally friendly behaviour amongst academic and administrative staff through a friendly competition.

Beatriz will discuss the methodological and pedagogical pillars of her research on this area, including an assessment of action learning and action research methodologies; the use of art-based techniques, and the potentialities of expanding this type of action-learning experiences in other settings, such as other universities and enterprises. This will be an interactive presentation aiming at creating some collaboration between universities and colleagues engaged and passionate about education for sustainable development.

Dr. Acevedo works as senior lecturer in sustainable management and environmental management at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School at Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge). She holds a PhD in Management, M.A. in Sociology, MBA with emphasis in Gender, and Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering. Her research interests include the development of aesthetic enquiry in organizational studies; the application of systems thinking methodologies; and post-structuralism and critical approach in organizational research. Beatriz is passionate about education for sustainable development and the necessary changes in the teaching and practice of Business and Management studies. She is also member of the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin University. Beatriz has extensive experience in working as a lecturer in management studies and as an academic consultant in projects of social policy, sustainability and public sector management in Latin America and Europe. Currently, Beatriz is working with some business enterprises in processes of organizational change in the topic of sustainability and environmental management. In addition to her academic work, Beatriz is an artist interested in the links between the business practice and the artistic input. For instance, she is working on the design of visual and sensual methodologies in processes of eco-auditing and sustainable management.
