The Quipu Project is a transmedia documentary project (a partnership between the University of Bristol and Chaka Studio) which highlights the experiences of 300,000 women and 20,000 men who were sterilised in Peru in the mid-1990s. Many did not give full consent for it to happen or were forced to do so. Almost 20 years later they are still seeking justice. Using a specially-developed telephone line, an interactive documentary, a radio campaign and a feature documentary, we are providing the framework for those affected by this policy to tell their story in their own words and bring it to an international audience. The story emerges as the archive of testimonies and responses grows. This event will consist of the presentation of some of the testimonies, and discussion of the issues they raise within their historical, political and global contexts. Can we still Be Human if the state denies our humanity? Can storytelling and the sharing of testimonies help to recover some of our lost humanity?

This event is part of InsideArts festival 2015.
