Bristol Arts Film Screening - Coded Bias
You are warmly invited to the 5th Bristol Arts Film event. This time we will be watching and discussing Shalini Kantayya's latest work, Coded Bias (2020).
This documentary provides shocking insights into the algorithmic bias inherent to facial recognition and its many applications, in insurance or security software for instance. It starts from MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini’s startling discovery that facial recognition systems do not detect darker faces accurately, and traces her journey of discovery into these systems’ many nefarious consequences. You can find out more and register via our Eventbrite page, and don't hesitate to send us queries at email@example.com
There is a small registration fee of £3 to cover the cost of the screening, which was facilitated by the US-based organisation Women Make Movies (WMM). WMM are the leading distributor of independent films by and about women. For 45 years, they have been championing women’s filmmaking and pushing for the recognition of women in film. Should there be any profits made after recouping the screening costs, they will go towards their organisation's vital work.
