The Bristol Model

The Bristol Model is a series of research projects that aim to evidence the student benefits of Knowledge Exchange (KE), to share good KE practice, and to improve future KE activities in Higher Education.

What is the IAA Bristol Model Placement Award?

The Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) Bristol Model Placement Award aims to enhance social sciences research impact and promote knowledge exchange in areas of untapped potential and strategic importance for the University of Bristol.

Building on the success of the Bristol Model Project, the Award follows the established framework in which Early Career Researchers (ECRs) undertake placements to co-produce projects with external organisations in Bristol.

The Award is a placement and training scheme open to ECRs interested in co-producing impact projects. We particularly encourage projects that are working with local charities, community groups, social enterprises and government organisations.

Why apply for the Awards?

The Award aims to develop ECRs' skills in partnership working, build capacity to conduct impactful research, enhancing their employability.

The scheme will also strengthen existing relationships with external stakeholders and develop new equitable partnerships to accelerate the translation of research.

ECRs wishing to apply for the Award are invited to register for the Co-produced research workshop, to develop their co-production skills and implement them on challenging projects.

What is involved?

  • Co-design a social science impact project with an external organisation based on existing research
  • Research funding up to £8000 per project
  • Placement can be full-time or part-time
  • Placement duration is between 3-6 months
  • The Professional Liaison Network (PLN) will support the ECR to identify a suitable external organisation (if required)

If you have any further questions regarding the scheme, please email Jiangee Ching: j.ching@bristol.ac.uk.
