The Future of Ancient Satire
Andy Zaltzman (The News Quiz, The Bugle) and Rosie Holt (Noncensored)
Old Council Chamber, Wills Memorial Building
In the 1st century AD, the Roman writer Quintilian said that satire was invented by the Romans. Today satire is all around us. But what does satire today owe to the comedians and satirists who practiced it in the ancient world and what can we learn from them about how satire works, or can work, now? In this event we aim to explore many different questions related to the past, present, and future of satire through the lens of the Greek and Roman poets who practiced it.
The Future of Ancient Satire features a roundtable discussion with Andy Zaltzman (The News Quiz, The Bugle) and Rosie Holt (Noncensored) with time for questions from the audience.
There will also be a FREE wine reception afterwards.
