Vice-Chancellor's Reception in New York

14 May 2024, 6.00 PM - 14 May 2024, 9.00 PM

Midtown Manhattan venue, details will be sent to attendees upon registering.

Bristol alumni in the United States are warmly invited to the University's annual New York Vice-Chancellor's Reception, featuring a talk by Professor Eirik Bjorge, a leading expert in the law of treaties and international dispute settlement at the University of Bristol Law School and Columbia Law School.

Professor Bjorge will explore the innovative legal approaches that states and individuals are taking to tackle the global climate crisis. From small island states seeking action to halt rising sea levels and the degradation of the marine environment, to young people asserting that global heating violates their fundamental rights to life and health under European law, Professor Bjorge will discuss how unusual legal pathways may provide a route to greater climate justice - enabling individuals and populations already experiencing the devastating impact of global warming to hold the world to account.

Following Professor Bjorge's insights, there will be an opportunity to converse with Professor Evelyn Welch, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University, and connect with your fellow alumni over drinks and canapes in a beautiful and historic Midtown setting. We're also delighted that many valued members of the University of Bristol Foundation Inc Board will also be joining us to share their reflections on the Foundation's work with the University.
