Partnership Event: Art in the Afternoon
Murray Edwards College, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, CB3 0DF
The Cambridge Branch has arranged an ‘Art in the Afternoon’ event at Murray Edwards College, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, CB3 0DF on Saturday 15 October, 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM.
The afternoon begins with a tour at 2:30 pm of the Women's Art Collection at Murray Edwards College, visiting areas not usually open to the public. It is the largest collection of women's art in Europe, still growing and displayed throughout the modernist building and grounds. The tour will be guided by alumna Harriet Loffler (BA 2007) who will also talk about what it means to be Curator of such a prestigious collection.
Following the tour there will be a chance to meet and have a chat over tea in the Fellows' Rooms.
There will be a guest lecturer, Charlotte Hodes, a well-known artist and professor in London who has both ceramics and paintings in the Collection. Charlotte trained at the Slade and was taught by Paula Rego. Her work has been exhibited in the Marlborough Gallery, the Wallace Collection and in venues across the country and abroad. She considers the New Hall Collection a 'special gem'.
There is a car park at the back of the College, reached via Madingley Road and Storey's Way.
Please make your way through the gardens to the Vivien Stewart Room or Porters' Lodge.
Cost: Tickets cost £22.
Booking: Please complete the art-in-the-afternoon-booking-form (PDF, 120kB) and return to the address listed on the form, with payment, before 9 October.
