The University of Bristol has won The Bristol Post’s Green Public Sector Award in recognition of its work in sustainability.

Over the last year, the University has been developing a wide range of initiatives related to sustainability, working with staff, students and local partners to make Bristol a greener place to live. This includes working with the University of the West of England to increase student volunteering across the city, developing new ways of managing the University estate more sustainably and using Bristol’s year as European Green Capital as a platform to present research.

Professor Hugh Brady, Vice Chancellor of the University said:

“What a wonderful award recognising the commitment of our staff and students on the sustainability agenda. Congratulations to all those whose hard work has resulted in this success.

Sustainability Manager (Energy) Chris Jones, who accepted the Green Public Sector Award on behalf of the University, said:

“We want to make our estates as efficient as they can be. I'd like to say how proud I am to work in sustainability at the University of Bristol, and to be associated with the students who are our future leaders and who will make a real difference.”

With categories ranging from Green Hero to Green Product, The Bristol Post’s 2015 European Green Capital Awards recognise the activities of businesses, schools, organisations, communities and individuals working to make Bristol one of the UK’s greenest cities in 2015, and leaving a legacy for sustainable living in the future.
