E-Scooters

E-scooters

Electric scooters are a common sight across Bristol and a popular way of getting around for many students and staff alike.

Rental e-scooters

Many e-scooters in the city are rented through the government-backed trial operated by TIER.

To rent one of their distinctive green e-scooters from the street, users must first  download the TIER app, sign up and follow the steps set on the TIER website.

Users must be at least 18 years old, hold a provisional or full driving licence and accept TIER’s Terms and Conditions  before riding one of their scooters.

E-scooters and e-bikes cost 99p to unlock and then 16p per minute. Users can also choose from a range of passes. There is a long-term rental option. TIER offers a 35% discount for 12 months for university staff and students. If you have trouble with the discount link the information can be found on this PDF -  TIER discount information (PDF, 146kB)

Users should park only in locations designated on the TIER app as scooter parking spots and in accordance with the operator’s terms of use.

If using a TIER parking spot located on the University estate, users should also observe our own cycle parking policies.

Privately owned e-scooters

Use of privately owned e-scooters remains illegal except on private land with consent of the landowner.

To avoid potential conflict with other users and for other safety reasons, the University does not permit use of private e-scooters on its estate.

Parking or storage of private e-scooters and/or charging of their batteries is therefore prohibited anywhere on the University estate, including at cycle parking facilities.
