Second Hand Bikes

You can get low cost, high quality reconditioned second hand bikes from LifecycleBristol Bike Project, and Bristol Bike Workshop.

Tax benefit cycle scheme

Staff are also able to get financial assistance if they cycle for work purposes as well as help towards the purchase of a new bike through the University's Cycle to Work Scheme.

Lock and light Sales

The University buys cycle locks and lights in bulk and passes this saving on to University staff and students.

Buy a D-lock or cycle lights (substantial student discount) at The Basket Shop in the Richmond Building or at one of the occasional University bike lock and light sales. You can also buy discounted D-locks at Royal Fort Lodge during normal opening hours.

Cycle mileage allowance

Staff cycling on University business can claim a mileage allowance of 20 pence per mile by completing expense claims in the normal way, but specifying that they have travelled by bicycle. Journey must be undertaken in the course of the University's business and excludes journeys between one's home and normal place of work.
