Translational Health Sciences

Supported by funders such as the NIHR, the Medical Research Council, and charities such as the Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation, our research delivers pioneering treatments for patients and groundbreaking discoveries in basic science, across fields including neuroscience and endocrinology, cardiovascular sciences, and a range of other key areas.

Research excellence

The 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) confirmed the University of Bristol's position as a leading centre for health research. More than 94% of our submitted research outputs were rated as world leading or internationally excellent.

We perform world leading translational research in multiple health science areas including cardiovascular, endocrinology, neuroscience, muscloskeletal, regenerative and renal medicine. Our research community of clinicians, clinical trialists, discovery scientists, and statisticians develop pioneering treatments for patients and ground-breaking discoveries in basic science. We translate our research expertise into our varied portfolio of teaching programmes for undergraduates and postgraduates using innovative teaching methods.
