Bristol offers a range of opportunities to help students to inform their decision making. Students currently taking A-levels, BTECs, an Access to HE Diploma or equivalent qualifications can apply to many of our Post-16 directly. These programmes give a taste of what it is like to study at Bristol and also have admissions-benefits attached for participants, such as a Guaranteed Contextual Offer.

What programmes do you have on offer?

Our team offer a range of outreach activities that are suitable for local and national students alike. Students who participate in some of our programmes may be eligible to receive admissions benefits when applying to Bristol University; others are designed to give subject specific insight to help students make an informed decision about their higher education journey.

Our widening participation programmes are specifically designed to support state educated students from under-represented backgrounds progress into Higher Education. For this reason, each of our admissions benefit outreach programmes (below) will prioritise applications from students who meet some or all of our widening participation eligibility criteria which are listed on each project's webpage. More specific eligiblity criteria, in addition to our general widening participation criteria, are listed in the table below.

The Arts

Creative Industries Unlocked (previously Unlock the Arts) is a 6-week programme designed for students in Year 12 or in their first year of college who are interested in learning more about pathways to careers in the creative industries. 

STEM

Students interested in STEM may be interested in STEM Up!, our virtual programme exploring Science, Engineering and Life Science topics.  Why not apply for a STEM work experience programme to boost your employability skills and understand more about courses and careers in the STEM sector? 

Supporting Black and Asian students

As well as Next Step Bristol and Insight into Bristol, we also run The Destinations Conference which is aimed at Year 12 students (or students in their first year of college) who identify as Black, Asian or any mixed ethnic background featuring one of these groups. The Destinations Conference offers students the chance to:

• find out more about life in our city and at the University of Bristol
• have an opportunity to hear directly from current students of colour,
• attend a short academic session giving an insight into academic study at Bristol,
• have a chance to meet representatives from some of our student societies.

Are you a teacher/advisor interested in supporting your students?

We offer practical sessions and workshops designed to support students with their applications to university both in person and virtually for school/college groups, which can be booked through our online booking form. We recommend that teachers and careers contacts register for our termly newsletter to receive updates on outreach opportunities, admissions benefits and exclusive virtual content.

Virtual content

Explore our virtual resources for an insight into different teaching styles and the various subjects you may choose to study. These include academic taster sessions and informative videos on topics such as student finance and personal statements. Registrants will also receive invitations to exclusive live seminars and activities.
