An exciting and vibrant learning culture

Coming out of lockdown, I was looking for a postgraduate experience that would sharpen my writing skills as an early-career comedian with ambitions in writing novel-length fiction. Having lived at home in rural Wales for the majority of 2021 due to the pandemic, I had carried a lot of anxiety into this postgraduate experience - but this was quickly dispelled by the open arms of the city.

My experience at Bristol has been one of rich personal and professional development. The care and attention of industry-leading professionals on my course, along with the supportive and friendly feedback from my course mates, has helped to engender an exciting and vibrant learning culture on the MA.

There’s a real friendliness to postgraduate studies at Bristol - I’ve enjoyed the social side of the MA, alongside the focus on craft that the course encourages. Bristol’s Creative Writing MA has provided the perfect blend of critical, commercial, and practical course content to develop my professional practice.

A life-changing year in a creative city

I would recommend studying in Bristol to anyone looking for a vibrant and creative scene to develop in. As a standup comedian, I’ve found gigs really easy to come by, filled with really receptive and fun audiences. This is reflective of many other creative scenes that Bristol is home to - from experimental theatre, to poetry, to live music - so whatever your stripes, you’ll find a fantastic culture to plug into, on and off campus.

Studying at Bristol has been a life-changing year, and the strong professional focus of my MA, and the attentiveness of my tutors, makes me feel confident to keep going on the path that I’ve taken. I wouldn’t feel as confident without having done a master's at Bristol. I’d recommend it in a heartbeat.
