At a critical time in history, our LLM in Environment, Sustainability and Business presents an exciting opportunity for you to develop a deep understanding of the role of business in sustainable development and what is needed to underpin success for socially responsible companies. Choosing this programme will see you graduate to meet the growing demand for specialist lawyers with the skills and knowledge to help businesses balance people, planet and profit.

This distinctive course offers in-depth, intensive study of law and regulation that can help tackle the environmental and sustainability challenges facing businesses, governments and not-for-profit organisations, as well as influence the relationships between business actors and their shareholders and stakeholders.

Some of the areas covered include conservation and the regulation of pollution, sustainable business structures and behaviours, sustainable development goals in trade, migration and the movement of labour and global health.

Programme structure

We have a large and vibrant international community and University of Bristol LLM students benefit from small class sizes. Our exciting range of optional units reflects the expertise of our globally renowned academics and an opportunity to further specialise in your degree.

You will take four units (120 credit points overall, 30 credit points each) and a compulsory dissertation (60 credit points). You have the option of taking three specialist units linked to the LLM Environment, Sustainability and Business, and one unit from any of our other LLMs.

Entry requirements

An upper second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in Law. Applicants who do not have a Law degree but have obtained a 2:1 in a related degree with at least 3 modules/units at 2:1 related to environmental law, sustainability or business/corporate law can be considered. Previous or professional experience is not required. If an applicant has a 2:1 in another degree but has not studied related modules we will consider relevant work experience of at least one year in a discipline closely related to the focus of this programme.
