MSc Healthcare Management
Overview
This innovative online programme is designed for those with an interest in pursuing a career in management or with managerial responsibilities in the healthcare sector. The programme aims to create a new generation of healthcare professionals who understand and can provide solutions for the challenges faced by health systems and healthcare organisations.
The MSc reflects contemporary themes and developments within healthcare management. You will discuss the latest understanding of how to successfully manage healthcare organisations and acquire the skills and confidence to challenge, innovate and solve problems. You will also have the opportunity to pursue projects relevant to healthcare management.
The programme draws from the knowledge of leading University of Bristol academics from across disciplines and healthcare experts from industry to offer both a comprehensive research-driven theoretical framework and practice-oriented knowledge and management skills. It provides an in-depth understanding and specialised knowledge of a number of subjects related to healthcare organisations, such as leadership, management, financial reporting, innovation, quality and safety.
It brings together the significant expertise and reputation of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Business School. It also benefits from the presence of world-class cross-disciplinary research institutions, along with the partnership and collaboration between the University and major healthcare providers in the South West.
This online programme is delivered through a blend of live online teaching sessions, recorded content, activities and web-based discussions. Through collaborative learning environments, you will network and learn from peers from a variety of backgrounds. Online learning offers the flexibility to study from anywhere in the world, allowing you to manage your own time and resources efficiently whatever your personal and professional commitments.
We offer the programme at Postgraduate Certificate level (60 credits), Postgraduate Diploma level (120 credits) and MSc level (180 credits).
Programme structure
The full master's programme (180 credits) features six taught units and a research dissertation. All units are mandatory.
This programme is delivered online through a blend of self-guided study and real time tutorials and discussions. There are six units in total and a final dissertation project.

In recognition of the fact that our students are busy professionals who often experience changes in their working conditions, we offer entry levels and exit levels for the programme at Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) level (60 credits), Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) level (120 credits) and Master's (MSc) level (180 credits).
The PGCert in Healthcare Management programme is a part-time online course consisting of 3 taught units and a Capstone unit (60 credits) structured over one year.
Students may choose to enter for a PGDip in Healthcare Management primarily as part of a 2-year part-time online programme or they may choose to progress to the PGDip programme following the successful completion of a PGCert in Healthcare Management. Those who enter the Diploma primarily will complete six taught units and a Capstone unit over 2 years (120 credits), whilst those who choose to progress from a PGCert will complete a further three taught units (60 credits) to be awarded a PGDip in Healthcare Management.
Finally, students may enter the MSc Healthcare management primarily as part of a part-time online 2-year programme. During their 2 years of study these students will complete six taught units and a Capstone Unit (120 credits) followed by a 60-credit dissertation unit.
Students may also enter the MSc Healthcare Management following successful completion of a PGDip in Healthcare Management. Students entering through this route will complete their 60-credit dissertation unit to be awarded their MSc in Healthcare Management.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be in full-time or part-time professional employment and hold a first or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent, including a clinical subject, or equivalent qualification. In exceptional circumstances candidates with a lower class degree, equivalent qualifications or at least two years' work experience in the healthcare sector may be admitted if they can demonstrate their potential for master's-level work.

Fees are subject to an annual review. For programmes that last longer than one year, please budget for up to an 8% increase in fees each year.
