Access to the building

Access to the building is with a key fob. 

Bike storage

Bike storage is located by the bin store in the complex.

Bicycles must not be brought into the house/flats due to fire regulations. Any bicycle found in the building, including in bedrooms, will be removed.

Catering options

Students living in self-catered rooms have the option of purchasing additional food and drink packages. Learn more about the packages available on the kitchens, catering and meals page.

Cleaning, recycling and rubbish

You are responsible for cleaning your flat (shared kitchen/living areas). The Student Cleaning Expectations and Guidance document has some helpful information on what cleaning products to use and how, so you know what to do to ensure your accommodation is cleaned well and that you are maintaining a healthy environment.

Communal spaces are cleaned daily by staff.

All bins including recycling are provided in each flat (in the shared kitchen/living areas).

Fire assembly point at Zinc Quarter

The assembly point for Zinc Quarter is the corner of Gardiner Haskins car park on Unity Street.

Fire alarm testing

Fire alarms will be tested regularly. Days and times of fire alarm tests will be posted in your residence. You do not need to evacuate during a fire alarm test. 

First aid

First aid boxes are located in the East Village Student Support Centre and in the reception at Zinc Quarter.

You should report an accident or near miss to the East Village Student Support Centre so we can take steps to prevent it from happening again.

Internet

  1. Connect to ASK4 Wireless.
  2. Go to signup.ask4.com.
  3. Follow the signup process. You will need to provide your flat and room number.

Wired connection

  1. Connect the ethernet cable from the device to the wall socket.
  2. Go to signup.ask4.com.
  3. Follow the signup process. You will need to provide your flat and room number.

Add additional devices

  1. On the new device, log into myaccount.ask4.com.
  2. Select Enable this device.

If you do not have a web browser on your device, you can add your device's MAC address at myaccount.ask4.com to get connected instead.

Get the app

Install the ASK4 app to manage your account and get any help or support your need. Search 'ASK4 support' in the App Store or Google Play.

24/7 support

Insurance

Basic personal belongings are insured as part of your accommodation contract.

Check your policy and arrange additional cover if required.

Laundry facilities and costs

Laundry facilities are located in the social space by reception. Machines are operated using the Circuit Laundry app.

Prices:

  • Wash: £3.40
  • Dry cycle: £1.90.

Drying clothes

You should not dry wet clothes in your room. This causes condensation and mould which can cause health problems, including some potentially serious lung infections.

Lost keys or locked out

If you are locked out, contact reception and a member of the residence staff will be able to let you back into your room.

Lost property

The lost property box is kept at reception and items will be stored for six months before disposal.

Parking

Car parking

There are no parking facilities at Zinc Quarter.  

E-scooters

The University does not permit the use of private e-scooters and they must not be brought into residences or stored in bike storage areas.

Post

Your postal address is: Your name, room/flat number, Zinc Quarter, 3 Unity Street, St Philip’s, Bristol BS2 0HN.

All mail will be distributed to mailboxes in the parcel room. When a parcel is delivered, you will get an email with a QR code to come and collect your parcel.

Rent and tenancy dates

The dates of your tenancy and total accommodation fee can be found in your tenancy agreement in the Accommodation Portal.

Request a repair

All repairs or maintenance requests must be reported by contacting reception or emailing zinc.quarter@studentroost.co.uk.

Provide as much detail about the repair or maintenance required.

Damage

If you break or damage something in your residence you need to report it to us.

If you don't tell us, it will be picked up at the end of your tenancy and you may be charged for the repair.

Social spaces

There are lots of social and study spaces in Zinc Quarter.

There are comfortable social and study areas available for students to use 24/7 by reception.

In the Townhouse there is a large open plan kitchen on the gound floor. On the first floor there is a another large social area with a tv and sofas.

You can also use the outdoor courtyard.
